• How good are the game’s motion control capabilities? When it comes to recognizing your movements, not all Kinect games are created equal. Some work really well, and others are so difficult to use that they’re pretty much unplayable. Game reviews are a great place to read about the sensitivity of in-game motion controls.
  • What type of game are you interested in? Because the Kinect is so different from previous Xbox controllers, you won’t always find a lot of games that are similar to what you’re used to playing on this console. For example, there aren’t a lot of traditional shooters or racing games available (yet). On the other hand, fitness and dancing games are much better when played on the Kinect, which is reflected by the fact that there are many titles in these genres to choose from.
  • What is your price range? New Kinect games vary in price from $20 to $50. Luckily, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good game. If you’re looking to save some money, it’s possible to find decent titles that will fit your budget.
  • What age group are you buying for? So far, most of the Kinect games released have been family-friendly. For example, people of any age can enjoy bowling in Kinect Sports or rafting in Kinect Adventures. Still, some games, such as Kinectimals (the game that allows you to adopt and train a virtual pet) are better suited towards kids, whereas others, such as Your Shape Fitness, Evolved (one of the highest-rated fitness games) are better suited towards adults.
  • Will a new version be coming out soon? New versions for many currently available titles will be coming out through the end of the year. For example, the new Dance Central game will provide updated capabilities and a new song list. Before buying any game, do some research to find out when a newer version will be released.
